The future of Palestinian society depend on the health of their children today, and the health of adults, despite the many successes that have been made recently in improving adult health especially in chronic diseases area, diabetes is still a real threat in morbidity rate and mortality and ill-health in general, a modest progress had been made ,in the recent year the situation had been worsen impoverish the Palestinian people and high unemployment rate, poor investment in health and environment in general, the absence of a national health plan, procedures reduce the incidence of diabetes and its complications and the absence of effective management in addressing appropriateness and quality for diabetes patients. The World Health Organization launched the term epidemic for diabetes rapid spread among citizens. Diabetes and obese disease is prevalent in all societies in the world especially in the developing countries, the reason was due to changing patterns of life, where the number of people diagnosed with diabetes in the world 170 million patients, expected to arrive in the year 2025 to 370 million patients, either in the Middle East, the number of people infected is estimated at 6 million, and in the occupied Palestine over 8% of adults suffering from diabetes. diabetes increases heart and arteries problems from 2 to 4 times, as it affects kidney, it is the main cause of death due to kidney disease, diabetes affects eyes and limbs, the most important causes of amputation. Studies have shown that half of people living with the disease need insulin note the percentage in increased. HWC believes that provide care for diabetes patients, and improving the nutritional status of Palestinian people is a politically and morally right should not be submissive to extortion or temper. but as a duty of Palestinian Authority through its various institutions (the government and legislative and Ministry of Health) by providing and delivering a high quality healthcare to all diabetes patients, particularly the presence of qualitative comprehensive and justify health system, taking in consideration a proper planning, especially as Palestinian people live more deprivation, poor health systems and policies, including limited ensure for diabetes patients treatment. Despite the unanimity of Palestinian that diabetes care is a priority in chronic diseases, but much remains to be done, HWC determine the need for a national program in chronic disease field as a national identify strategies to control chronic diseases, especially diabetes and the development of programs change citizens attitudes and lifestyle, and to ensure the provision of services and facilitate the investigation and early diagnosis, training and rehabilitation of human recourses capable of managing chronic diseases such as diabetes and others, and the basic right to use health care facilities and the overall quality of each Palestinian citizen. Objective: Contribute to meeting the health needs of diabetes patients in terms of care and prevention in HWC centers. What is Diabetes Care Program? One of the health programs implemented by HWC in response and participates in meeting health needs of the Palestinian society. Diabetes Care Program activities: 1. Preventive 2. Therapeutic 3. Educational 4. Follow-up of diabetes patients and enable them to deal with the illness complications. Services program delivered for a nominal fee and include: 1. Clinical medical examination 2. Blood sugar test 3. Cholesterol test 4. Tri-glycerin test 5. Cumulative blood sugar test HbA1c, 6. Kidney examination. Also the program organize promotion and health education which include meetings awareness for diabetes patients, issuing bulletins to do self-care for patients with diabetes, in addition to the educational wall charts. Who beneficiary from Diabetes Care Program? Program provides services for all diabetes patients who benefit from the services of HWC centers in all age groups. Where we are locate? In most HWC centers such as: the old town of Hebron, Halhoul, Beit Sahour, El-mazraa El-sharqia, Kafr Niemeh, Awarta, Salem, the old town of Nablus, Bathan and Tubas. |
