Women's Health Program conducted several activities celebrating World Health Day. Several central activities were conducted under the title "Youth & Family Health is a Better Investment". In Bethlehem area: on 15/4/2008, a workshop was organized at the Pediatrics Caritas Hospital in Bethlehem for youth and students from colleges and universities in collaboration with Caritas College and Women's Center for Legal and Social Counseling under the auspices of the Meyer of Bethlehem. Participants in the workshop included representatives from universities, colleges and local health and development organizations. General workshop objective: increase youth awareness on their family and reproductive health rights and create network for collaboration between higher education facilities (colleges and universities) in Bethlehem governorates.
Women's Health Program also conducted several central activities celebrating World Health Day in the form of offering free of charge medical days for women in reproductive age and for menopausal women in Al-Khadir village and in Al-Shawawra village in collaboration with village councils and municipalities. Service providers in the Western and Eastern villages of Bethlehem included Dr. Ihab Awad / Gynecologist and both nurses; Iman Al-Khatib and Sawsan Oweena. Services offered included: - Antenatal care - Lectures on family planning and the importance of early detection of breast cancer and cervical cancer. - Training of women on self breast exam. - Distribution of free medications, family planning methods, iron supplements, and antibiotics. - Distribution of brochures on women's health. Women's Health Program participated in conducting the national awareness campaign on breast and cervical cancers in collaboration with the national committee for health promotion and education sponsored by the Italian project for cancer awareness and health education. Durin March 2008, Women's Health Program conducted 12 seminars on breast and cervical cancers in 11 areas in the country including Toubas, Al-Bathan, Marda, Ramin, Bit Leid, Aqbat Jabr, Kufr Nimeh, Qalandia Camp, Beit Hanina, and Qalqilia. 568 women benefited form these seminars. Staff including nurses and doctors of Women's Health Program conducted these seminars using several learning aids, educational material, brochures and visual aids. Also, training on self breast examination was offered and awareness on the importance of periodic checks and pap smears and mammography were emphasized .HWC celebrates The Palestinian Child Day in Marda, HWC's Health Center in Marda, in collaboration with School Health Department within Department of Education in Salfit governorate, conducted an open day for 100 children of 3 kindergartens in Marda in celebration of the Palestinian Child Day. Blood tests were offered for these 100 children and counseling for oral health and hygiene were offered with free distribution of tooth bastes and tooth brushes. At the conclusion of the day, the mother's were honored by presenting them with flowers in celebration of Women's Day. |
