  Right to Health

The decision of  HWC to organize a conference on the "Right to health" is consistent with HWC's mission and directions and with the intellectual background behind its programs and work strategies. On one hand, the concept of health (according to HWC's understanding) carries a judiciary aspect as it is a basic human right that should be reflected in legislations and laws that support this right in accordance with charters and international norms. The Right to Health, in our perception, is relevant to development.

Conference Objectives:

Health is not only the absence of disease; it encompasses all that is relevant to human life and its consistency and compatibility with its surroundings. From this, the health issue is a developmental subject. Also, since HWC is wide open to other cultures and global experiences in its line of work, always looks forward to make use of others' experiences in defending the right to health.  From this, the general objective of this conference was seeking to create a local public opinion in defense of the right to health in connection with development issues and to make use of international experiences in this aspect, especially the experience of the "People's Health Movement".

Conference Panels:

This conference had two panels; the first one was a critical, comprehensive review of the current health situation in Palestine through the roles of different health institutions and addressing major health issues at the national level: the National health Plan, Health System, health insurance, calls for privatization of health services, and the judiciary and laws relevant to the right to health issue in Palestine. The second panel addressed institutional and counties' experience with the right to health issues. Several experiences were presented; the Belgium, Egyptian, and Palestinian. In conclusion, the conference seeks possibilities to establish a health movement in Plaestine that can act as an active branch of the international movement; The People's Health Movement.
